In the beginning of the schools year on the day our teacher explained it to us. I thought it seemed impossible, I didn't know how I was going to create something when I had zero background knowledge on films, cameras,shots,angles, etc. Little did I know all the projects we were doing were preparing for this exact final moment... The end of my Portfolio Project.
It was Feb and our teacher had told us to do a transition post for this portfolio, in the beginning, I lookey thought we had so much time, but boy did that time go flying by, I feel like it was just yesterday when she was telling us we'd have to write 3 blog post a week and write our scripts, character boards, genre research, you get it. To begin our process my partner Brianna began researching genres, but unfortunately that same week we had begun the project I was in Ecuador getting my wisdom teeth out. I had this trip planned way before our teacher told us we were starting the project and me and Brianna were so nervous about falling behind. And we did, we fell behind so hard I remember doing group meetings and everyone had already had their ideas, scripts, and genres picked out. Me and Brianna had done nothing, now this wasn't completely our fault, I was on bedrest for the entire week, in excruiable pain, and ofc I wasn't going to count on Brianna do do it alone because that wouldn't be fair. So the emails came out, to each and every one of my teachers explaining my situation and what was going on, thank god for this bc my amazing teacher Mrs Stonklosa gave me an extension and me and brianna weren;t too far behind that we knew we could catch up.
Friday of that same week came and Brianna and Myself were on a phone call for hours discussing genre, genre conventions, and movie ideas, until we finally nailed it down to the coming-of-age romancestory that we made our production on. We knew that we were on a role so we decided to write out the plot that same day, we used a shared google doc and shared ideas for what we wanted to do, damn this part was difficult because we didn't want our ideas to be extremely cheesy, or too cringe. I mean in reality you have to except coming of age movies to be a bit cheesy because their all about growth and that's the state we are in. Yeah going back the reason we chose coming of age is because we felt like we could do a good job creating a film that would attract the target audience of people our age. After all, we are teenagers currnelty expiring the world and going through the conventions of a coming-of-age film. It was getting pretty late so after writing out the plot of the love triangle we called it a night and agreed to call in the morning to do the script.
Doing the script was like the hardest thing I have ever had to do, for some reason me, and Brianna were exhausted and trying to figure our what our main characters Ellie and Sabrina were gonna say. It took us 4 long hours but we successfully finished and we were proud of our script. After the script we knew It would be time to edit any final tweaks before it would be time to film. So we did final research and character boards, to get an idea of what our characters personas were going to look like. We made them on Pinterest and submitted them to our blogs.
Then finally came to film, we recruited another actor to play as the second main character along with brianna, and we got to work. Sadly we forgot to take pictures I wanted to add some onto here but something I learned from filming is that I need to learn about shots more I belive in 2 of my shots, I kind of made up some movements that aren't correct. I also learned that I need to make my clips connect more, some of my clips look a bit separate and not in unison like a movie should be, so in some bits it looks more like a collection of clips instead of a film introduction. I tried my best to fix these mistakes as best as possible. I edited the project with my partner brianna making sure that all the audio was synced up, and all the effects looked good. We did some peer reviewing to try and get rid of any mistakes we missed, cleared those mistakes, distributed it on youtube, and now I have to submit it here!
